London for medical congresses: A case
study |
In 2015, the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) brought the world’s
biggest cardiovascular congress to ExCeL London, bringing a record-breaking 32,773 delegates from over 140 countries to the capital. Then in November last year, the ESC announced that ESC Congress will return to London in 2021, taking place again at the iconic ExCeL London conference centre from 28 August – 1 September 2021, and bringing together health care professionals working towards reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease in Europe. |
London has a track-record of successfully hosting high-profile, and large-scale medical conferences. |
Why congresses choose London: |
- Flexible resources - Numerous London venues and hotels are appropriate for hosting events bound by the ABPI Code of Practice.
- Connectivity - With direct flights from 336 international destinations, six international airports, and the new Elizabeth line, London is extremely accessible.
- Medical excellence – In the 'Golden Triangle' of knowledge with Oxford and Cambridge, London offers innovation and research as well as 230 healthcare companies, high funding levels, world-class clinicians and hospitals.
- Collaboration and policy support – Many key institutions call London home,
including the Medical and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency; writing regulations that ensure events are safe, reliable and cutting edge.
