Dear MaCCI community, it is with great sadness that we have learned that Heike Schweitzer passed away on June 11 at the age of 56. We all are losing a brilliant law scholar and intellectual leader in competition law. MaCCI is losing a big supporter and some of us are losing a coauthor and friend. Heike was highly influential in developing competition law in Germany and Europe, most visibly in response to challenges in the digital economy. Heike joined the University of Mannheim as a law professor in 2010 and worked in Mannheim until 2014 when she left for Berlin. The creation and development of MaCCI is closely linked to Heike. She is one of the co-founders of MaCCI and was a co-director of MaCCI from 2010 until 2014. Since 2015 she has been a member of the MaCCI Advisory Board and generously provided advice. Over the years Heike co-organized several topical MaCCI conferences. Some of us closely interacted with Heike and learned a lot from her. We look back with great gratitude. Testimony of these interactions are numerous co-authored government reports and articles. We will miss Heike, her intellectual depth and curiosity, and her sharp and at the same time humble comments. Jens-Uwe Franck, Martin Peitz, and Achim Wambach on behalf of the MaCCI Board of Directors
