Next stop Paris: save the date on the 1st of April 2020 for the 16th INSME Annual Meeting
It is now official: the 16th INSME Annual Meeting will take place on the 1st of April 2020 in Paris, France. This year’s event is of particular importance as it will be the occasion to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the OECD "Bologna Charter on SME Policies", the Ministerial declaration that put the basis for the establishment of our Network, which was then launched in 2004 during the 2nd OECD Ministerial Conference on SMEs in Istanbul. A joint OECD-INSME conference exploring high growth firms and the policies they deserve will be organized to properly mark this occasion.

EBSOMED: a five-day peer learning programme with Palestinian experts
In the framework of the EBSOMED project INSME welcomed two members of the team of the UCAS (University College of Applied Sciences) Technology Incubator – UCASTI from the 18th to the 22nd of November. They took part in a peer learning programme dedicated to the exchange of knowledge and best practices that could support them in establishing a new innovation centre in Gaza, Palestine.

INSME President at the IREFI Forum
On the 15th of November the Embassy of France in Rome hosted the third edition of the Italy-France Forum on Family Businesses, an initiative promoted by IREFI – the Institute for Economic Relations between France and Italy in collaboration with several partners among which INSME.
INSME President Sergio Arzeni was among the experts invited to the forum and moderated a session dedicated to the crucial role business associations play in internationalization processes.

WIPO launches the 2019 edition of the World Intellectual Property Report
The World Intellectual Property Organization (INSME Member) has recently presented its 2019 Report in Geneva. This year’s edition analyses the geography of innovation and identifies two main agglomerations of scientific and technological activities which are:
- the global innovation hotspots where there is the highest density of scientific publications and patent activity;
- specialized niche clusters which register a considerable density of inventors and scientific authors, but it is not high enough to be a global hotspot.

SRM - The economic research centre related to Intesa Sanpaolo in Bejing, China to promote Special Economic Zones and SMEs
On the 28th of October Mr. Massimo Deandreis, General Manager at SRM – The economic research centre related to Intesa Sanpaolo (INSME Sustaining Member) was one of the representatives attending an Italian Mission to China organized by Intesa Sanpaolo in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Beijing, the China International Contractors Association (Chinca) along with the support of ICE aiming at promoting Special Economic Zones and Small and Medium Enterprises.

Sharakah launches 5th Khazzan for SMEs Development Programme
The Omani Fund for Development of Youth Projects (S.A.O.C.) – Sharakah (INSME Member) has recently launched a new edition of the Khazzan for SMEs Development Programme.
The initiative carried out in partnership with BP Oman is now in its 5th edition and confirms itself as a very useful measure to help local entrepreneurs to improve their business performances by assessing and identifying areas for improvements and drafting a well-structured business plan.

Towards an European Innovation Council: the Enhanced Pilot 2019-2020
The European Innovation Council (EIC) focuses on stimulating breakthrough and disruptive innovation with a budget of over €3 billion from 2018 to 2020 for the seed stages to scaling-up. It features two instruments: the Pathfinder and the Accelerator. With these pilots, the EIC will be able to provide strong support to any idea, regardless the level of maturity.

IraSME opens the 25th Call for Transnational Cooperative Research Project Proposals
IraSME - a network of funding programmes from different countries/regions aiming at supporting small businesses in their innovation efforts – launched the 25th call for proposals which will fund i) the development of new products, processes or technical services; ii) technical development from first idea to last not marketable prototype; iii) R&D with significant technical risks.
The call is open to consortium of at least two companies from two different participating regions/countries. The budget available for each funded project is on avarage €160.000 but it depends from each national/regional agency involved.
The general deadline to submit a proposal is the 26th of March 2020, but interested applicants are invited to check this information with their local agencies.

SDGs&Her: the online competition for women entrepreneurs
SDGs&Her is an online competition dedicated to women entrepreneurs who are contributing to reach the Sustainable Development Goals through their business activities. Through this competition the World Bank aims at:
- recognizing women implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including women business owners of microenterprises;
- increasing knowledge about the SDGs;
- sharing best practices and innovative ideas.
The winners will be recognized in April 2020 at an event on the margins of the 2020 World Bank Group-IMF Spring Meetings in Washington D.C.
The deadline for submission is the 10th of January 2020.

The Future Fab Award
Lamborghini promotes the Future Fab Award, a competition open to under 30 women from all over the world with an innovative project or idea in one of the following categories: technology, sustainability, art & design. The judging panel will select a winning project for each category according to three criteria:
- the ability to positively impact the world we live in and encourage positive social changes and benefits for communities;
- innovative content with a vision for a better future;
- the effective feasibility of the project.
The three winners will receive several benefits among which: a) A shadowing/coaching experience with FAB members and Lamborghini C-level executives to allow them to develop the skills to organise, analyse and communicate their project effectively, b) ten days of learning sessions and specific insights, c) the opportunity to present their project to the Lamborghini Board and analyse the strengths and weaknesses of their proposals.
The deadline for submissions is the 31st of December 2019.

Eurochambres Economic Survey 2020
Eurochambres recently released the 27th edition of the Economic Survey which shows a less rosy picture compared to the last year. For this edition ca. 53,000 businesses (out of which 90% represents SMEs) participated in the survey carried out by Eurochambres and 28 national chambers of commerce and industry around Europe. According to the survey results 43% of interviewees identified domestic demand as one of the most pressing challenge for 2020.

Doing Business 2020: Comparing Business Regulation in 190 Economies
The World Bank has recently released the 17th edition of Doing Business, a publication analysing the impact of regulations on business activities, in particular by taking twelve areas of the life of a business into account: starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts, resolving insolvency, employing workers, and contracting with the government.

Market success for inventions – Patent commercialisation scoreboard: European SMEs
The European Patent Office (EPO) recently released “Market success for inventions – Patent commercialization scoreboard: European SMEs”. The report analyses how SMEs commercialise their patents in practice by building upon the results of a sample of European patent applications coming from 1140 European SMEs interviewed in the first half of 2019 and which applied between 2008 and 2018.

18th International Entrepreneurship Forum Conference “Entrepreneurship as a Social Movement: Art, Technology, Design and Sustainable Entrepreneurial Transformation”
16 - 18 December | Goa, India
“Entrepreneurship as a Social Movement: Art, Technology, Design and Sustainable Entrepreneurial Transformation” is the topic of the 18th edition of the International Entrepreneurship Forum Conference taking place in Goa, India from the 16th to the 18th of December.
The conference will gather researchers, project developers, policy makers and practitioners who will identify algorithms and the future of machine learning that releases space and time for the collective imagination of public enterprises. Attendees will also explore how alternative finance asks new questions about the future value of money and enquire whether all entrepreneurial things can facilitate greater inequality or constrain social and institutional responsibility.
During the two-day conference participants will have the chance to disseminate research results, to create new partnerships, to access new sources of information and to share creative ideas.
INSME is proudly partner of the event and the President Sergio Arzeni will be in Goa to give his contribution to the conference, in particular he will actively intervene in a panel session dedicated to Policy, Institutions and Inclusive Entrepreneurship.
