Dear Jeanette,
The coronavirus pandemic presented association leaders with a series of unfamiliar and complex challenges.
Overnight, they had to deal with the cancellation of in-person events (a major source of revenue), learn how to manage their staff remotely, integrate new virtual meetings technology into their programming, and respond to the changing needs of their members, amongst other things. And all, as one described it, ‘without any historical data or context to draw on’.
In this special, end-of-year edition of AMI, we spoke to 10 association leaders to understand how the events of the last 20 months have shaped their thinking about leadership and people management. We discover the mistakes they made, the lessons they learned, and the advice they would give themselves if they had to do it all again.
